“HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?”

Need Help? - 12 months ago - admin

Everyone wants to know right off the jump how much its going to cost. Until you figure out PURPOSE, PAGES, FEATURES and ELEMENTS we can’t come up with a realistic budget that will balance the actual cost of production with what features you want.

Remember that you are employing a service which you expect will exceed your expectations. By allocating the proper capital and having it ready to invest you are ensuring there will be no hiccups in launching the site. Your time is too precious to waste doing the tango.

Perhaps a solution if you don’t have the money right now to invest in a website, is to work with your current budget and create a first version with the basic functions you require, then as business permits we can add new features.

Many people who want a website built underestimate the cost because they don’t realize that alot of stuff goes on during research and development stages that can be both tedious and time-consuming but are hard to quantify.

Another thing to think about is that even-though you will always get my personal touch, if I have to think for you (for example, actually write from scratch about your services and company) that is going to increase the budget because writing content takes time and thought, and time costs money. However, if you give me the content and are only looking for me to do basic proofing and editing, it isn’t costing anything because I do it anyway when coding the content. The same principle more or less applies to every type of element that will make up your site.

I can’t speak for my competition, but I win nothing by trying to cheat my clients. I have learned that even the most demanding projects and companies will eventually come to a close. By striving to do an outstanding job every time I am guaranteed to get good critique of my work and great referrals.

During our consultation we can discuss and brainstorm solutions to fit your budget so that the end-result is clean, professional and easy to enjoy.

Once you have figured out your PURPOSE, PAGES, FEATURES, ELEMENT sources and BUDGET. Notice budget is listed last because a realistic budget can’t be assessed without knowing what will go into the project.

I can’t create what I cannot understand. If you don’t know what you want, how am I supposed to know? I can only help you turn ideas into concepts, then organize those into a well-designed website.

How do you know you have a PURPOSE?

You are able to clearly state what that purpose is. A few examples can be to market your company or brand, sell merchandise and/or services, inform and build awareness, share or showcase.

What PAGES and FEATURES will this website have?

In order to organize the website it is important to think about all of the pages and features you want the website to have.

Common pages on a very basic site can be: ‘about’, ’services’, ‘prices’, ‘contact’. Features can include videos, application forms, submission forms, ecommerce shopping cart, blogging or commenting.

How do you figure this out?

1. Get a pen and paper or open up a word processing program like wordpad.

2. Clearly write your PURPOSE at the top of the page. Keep this purpose in your mind.

3. Start listing the Pages and Features. If you still aren’t sure, do a web search for similar sites and take notice of the pages and features you find. Keep in mind that just because someone did it, doesn’t mean you should.

What about the ELEMENTS?

Now that you have PURPOSE, PAGES and FEATURES sort of coming together on paper you need to think about the ELEMENTS (logo, images, product info, text content, bios, etc) and where they will be coming from.

It is important to figure out if extra services such as logo design or video editing will be necessary. This will tremendously impact both the budget as well as the design process.
